SPRING CLEANING
It’s been 5 long months of cold weather and its most likely not quite over yet. But with a sneak peak of warm weather that lies ahead, people are eager to clean their homes and rid them of the dust and stuffiness that comes with winter. Here’s 5 tips to being safe while spring cleaning.
1. TAKE YOUR TIME.
Often spring cleaning is not done in a blink of an eye, rather it takes time to clean the house. At the end of the day of cleaning we often rush through because we are ALMOST done and this is when we often see injury. Remember your body is tired and need to take the extra precautions to avoid injury.
2. SAFETY FIRST.
Unfortunately, we can not magically grow to reach those high up areas that need a good dusting after lack of airflow from the winter. Therefore, we use step stools and ladders to help us reach those areas. Remember two feet on the ladder or stool at all times, pushing too much with one foot can result in tipping of the devices. Falling can lead to a great magnitude of injuries. Remember safety first.
3. TAKE MORE THAN ONE TRIP.
Many times when carrying groceries in, we try to carry in as many as possible to take few of trips as possible. However, this can often result in carrying to heavy of loads for our body’s that have been working hard to clean our homes. When cleaning and picking up our homes take more trips to reduce the heavy load.
4. BE SAFE WHILE HANDLING CHEMICALS.
Cleaning supplies often create intense fumes, try to keep clean air circulating while working with these supplies. Another important aspect is to wear rubber gloves while working with chemicals. Remember to not mix chemicals as some can produce toxic fumes that can be harmful. Finally, protect your hands from the harshness of the chemicals by using rubber gloves.
5. CLEAN UP, CLEAN UP.
When finishing cleaning, put away your supplies properly. Make sure we do not overload our bodies when cleaning up and we take our time with proper mechanics when picking up buckets or moving the vacuum. Also, when putting away supplies make sure they are properly put away rather than “shoved” into the cabinet where they may fall and injure us when opening the cabinet next time.
REMEMBER safety first! After a long winter and with the weather beginning to turn, it is more enjoyable to be able to get outside rather than injuring yourself and spending more time in the house. Spring cleaning is a great way to kick off the warmth but make sure you are doing it safely. HAPPY CLEANING! HAPPY SPRING!
